Employment Roundtable: What’s New in Maryland Employment Law?

July 19, 2018

Maryland recently passed the Healthy Working Families Act requiring allemployers doing business in the state to provide covered employees with sick and safe leave.  Consequently, businesses must review and consider revising their leave policies and practices to comply with the new legislation. This roundtable is a must-attend event for any business owner, manager or HR professional who wants to understand the intricacies of this law and the potential impact it may have on employment policies and practices.

Greg Grant of the Employment and Labor Law Group at Shulman Rogers, will provide valuable insight into how the Healthy Working Families Act will affect your business, along with best-practice advice on:

  • Determining which employees are covered and whether leave is paid or unpaid
  • Regulating the use of leave
  • Employer obligations under the law
  • Benefits of awarding “lump sum” leave vs. accrual of leave
  • Impact on local leave laws
