We serve individual clients who are confronted with tax issues from state and Federal tax authorities.  Tax controversies occur through inquiries from all levels of state and federal tax officials.  Contact us if you receive a letter from a state, local or federal tax authority.  We handle cases in all 50 states, but our current focus is on inquiries and examination notices from Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia and the Internal Revenue Service.  Our attorneys have handled cases before the Maryland Tax Court and the United States Tax Court along with courts in Virginia and the associated appellate courts.

We also represent individuals who owe the tax authorities more than they can comfortably pay.  Our attorneys negotiate collection alternatives with the IRS or state tax authorities, to lessen the burden on the taxpayer client.  If all assets could be depleted, we explore whether an Offer in Compromise might be a solution.  Our attorneys have also obtained innocent spouse relief for spouses who unwittingly signed a joint tax return with a spouse who did not accurately report income and/or expenses.  Other options include appeals to the IRS regarding liens and levies, along with negotiating installment agreements that are not crippling to the taxpayer.
