Judge Sees Mastermind Behind String Of FCRA Suits

A Maryland federal judge said Wednesday he suspects a serial plaintiff is behind a lawsuit claiming violations of state and federal debt collection laws because it was filed by a man who shares the same last name, dismissing two credit reporting agencies and George Mason University from the suit
Noting the “extraordinary number” of similar lawsuits filed in the District of Maryland under the last name Alston, U.S. District Judge Peter J. Messitte granted dismissal to Experian Information Solutions Inc. and TransUnion LLC, and dismissal with prejudice to the university, in a suit that also names Equifax Information Services LLC and a debt collector. Allegedly pro se plaintiff Troy Alston is suing over attempts to collect on a class enrollment fee of less than $200.
