Law360 quoted Jacob Frenkel, chair of the firm’s Government Investigations practice, in an article titled “Broader Case Looms As FIFA Probe Persists.” The article discusses the ongoing corruption investigation against several current and former FIFA officials and executives.
“When we see charges brought in the U.S., there is often an expectation that something is going to happen quickly, but as we have here with extradition issues, sometimes these cases can take years,” Frenkel said.
He said that with the case broadening, authorities are likely working to get their ducks in a row before bringing new charges and that we could begin to see a number of standalone cases against individuals as they begin to enter plea deals.
