Goblins and Ghouls Help Local Volunteer Hospice Service Gain Support

October 28, 2009

Aside from costumes and candy, Halloween will also serve to help those who are ill this year.  Hospice Caring, Inc., the only volunteer-based hospice service in Montgomery County, Md., will host its 15th Annual Halloween Bowl-a-thon at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, 2009 at the Bowl America in Gaithersburg, Md., to raise money to continue supporting the community.

The services provided by Hospice Caring, Inc. are free of charge, and made possible through volunteer support and the financial support of donor partners.  For individuals who wish to take part in the Bowl-a-thon, a $6.00 contribution (per person) will supply two games and bowling shoes.  In addition, teams collect pledges of support.

“Stress is an inevitable part of dealing with terminal illness, loss, and grief” said Matthew Gearhart, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Hospice Caring.  “We are here to help our community during those difficult times.  This year’s Bowl-a-thon is another step to make sure ill members of our community get the support they need.”

More than 400 trained volunteers with Hospice Caring, Inc. provide practical and emotional support to terminally ill adults, children, and their families, including bereavement services to families after their loved one has passed.  It is a non-medical hospice service that does not and a doctor’s referral is not necessary.

Hospice Caring, Inc. has support from organizations throughout Montgomery County that understand the importance of its services, including Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy, & Ecker, P.A., a law firm based out of Potomac that has been helping out with the Bowl-a-thon for the past ten years.

“The services that Hospice Caring, Inc. provides to people in Montgomery County are extremely generous,” said David Pordy, Managing Shareholder at Shulman Rogers.  “Our firm understands the crucial role they play in supporting the ill and their families, which is why we’ve been supporting them for years.  They work to make our community a better place.”

About Hospice Caring, Inc.

Hospice Caring’s mission is to provide caring, compassionate, practical and high quality non-medical support services, without charge, to every Montgomery County adult or child who is facing a life-threatening illness or is grieving the death of a family member or loved one.
