Biography

Eric Kurtz advises clients on strategic business transactions, bringing more than 25 years of corporate law experience from in-house roles at Fortune 500 companies and prestigious international law firms. His practice combines rigorous legal analysis with practical business sense.

As a member of the Corporate and Transaction Department, Eric represents both buyers and sellers in M&A transactions but particularly focuses his practice on representing individual owners in sales of their businesses to private equity-backed buyers.  Private equity buyers often offer eye-popping top-level purchase price numbers.  However, they have also developed (and continue to develop) complex legal strategies to “de-risk” the transaction (by pushing the risk back on sellers) and to reduce the actual cash in sellers’ pockets through complicated purchase price adjustments.  Eric’s rich experience gives him the knowledge and confidence to identify these strategies, explain them to his clients, and push back respectfully where warranted.

Eric helps his clients get their deals done, while working to eliminate surprises on price and post-closing claims.

Eric is a graduate of Brandeis University and Harvard Law School and is a member of the Maryland and New York bars.
