SHULMAN ROGERS HONORED WITH 2011 MONTGOMERY COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION AWARD

October 26, 2011

POTOMAC, Md. – October 26, 2011 – As one of the 2011 recipients of the 15th Annual Montgomery County Board of Education Award for Distinguished Service to Public Education, Shulman Rogers was recognized at a ceremony October 20, 2011at the Carver Educational Services Center in Rockville, MD. Shulman Rogers was honored alongside Kaiser Permanente and Whole Foods Market in the business category.

The awards were established to recognize and show appreciation for exemplary contributions to public education in the Montgomery County Public School System. Shulman Rogers was influential in the development of three non-profit organizations that provide vocational training to high school students through a partnership between schools and the business community.

“Every year, hundreds of Montgomery County high school students take part in vocational programs that are a result of a public-private partnership,” said Karl Means, a shareholder at Shulman Rogers accepting the award on the firm’s behalf. “The community partnership strengthens the educational experience, connecting students directly with successful role models and Shulman Rogers is proud to be a part of it.”

The Automotive Trades Foundation, the Construction Trades Foundation and the Information Technology Foundation provide classroom instruction with hands-on experience to better prepare students for a career. For example, students participating in the Construction Trades Foundation program learn a variety of skills in the classroom and then take their knowledge to the construction site. The students build and complete construction on one home a year, with the assistance and oversight of local contractors and engineers.

Since the inception of the trade foundations over 30 years ago, the firm remains very much involved in the organizations, providing legal counsel on issues such as development agreements, sales contracts and governmental approvals.
