POTOMAC, Md., June 16, 2014 — Shulman Rogers is pleased to announce, that by unanimous decision of the Maryland State Bar Association’s selection committee, David Kochanski has received the “Distinguished Maryland Real Property Practitioner” Award from the Section of Real Property, Planning and Zoning. The award was presented on June 13th at the Section’s Annual Business Meeting in Ocean City, Maryland.
This annual award recognizes a Maryland real estate attorney who best exemplifies the experience, client service, expertise, integrity, collegiality, and courtesy for which all real estate lawyers strive in their professional lives.
Mr. Kochanski was recognized for his many contributions to the legal profession, the American, state and local bar associations, and his clients spanning over his nearly 40-year career. Specifically, Mr. Kochanski received accolades for his countless efforts on behalf of the MSBA’s Opinion Project, the ABA’s Real Property Trust & Estate Law Section, the Maryland Professionalism Course, the Advanced Real Property Institute, the MSBA Board of Governors and Peer Review Panels.

Mr. Kochanski is the second attorney from the firm to receive this award. In 2006, founding shareholder Larry Shulman was honored. He joins Larry Shulman as a fellow in the American College of Real Estate Lawyers and in being recognized as one of America’s leading lawyers for real estate by Chambers USA.
Mr. Kochanski has served as Chair of the Maryland State Bar Real Property, Planning and Zoning Section, the Montgomery County Bar Real Estate Section and the Firm’s Real Estate Department. He is an active participant in the District of Columbia Bar Real Estate Section, and several standing committees of the American Bar Association Real Property Trust and Estate Law Section. He has been appointed to the Maryland State Legislature’s Commission to Study the Title Insurance Industry in Maryland. He serves as a Chair for Maryland Peer Review panels and is often called to testify as an expert witness in both real estate and ethics matters.
Mr. Kochanski is an acknowledged leader having frequently been asked to speak at many of the leading real estate conferences and events, and invited to teach at various higher education institutions.
