Inaugural Law Rocks Washington DC Features Lawyers Who Rock
Nonprofit organization that hosts legal professionals in “battle of the bands” fundraising concerts comes to DC for the first time.
Law Rocks Inc., the nonprofit organization that hosts a series of
epic fundraising concerts comprised of bands of legal professionals, is presenting the Inaugural Law Rocks DC this Thursday, November 19, 2015.
The concert will serve to promote various local nonprofit organizations represented by each band from several law firms around the DC area. Taking place at the acclaimed 9:30 Club venue, these legal professionals will let their hair down and rock out for the real rock stars, the local nonprofit organizations.
“The response from DC was incredible,” says Law Rocks Director of Marketing and Development, Omi Crawford. “And I’m inspired by the nonprofit organizations the bands selected; these are organizations that do tremendous good in the community.” Eight bands will compete at the concert, playing to benefit area charities Bread for the City, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of Washington, Central Union Mission, Children’s Law Center, Hospice Caring, Miriam’s Kitchen, and SOME (So Others Might Eat).
The winning band is selected by four factors: donations raised, tickets and sponsorships, judge’s score, and audience favorite. The panel of judges for Law Rocks DC features music producer Jim Ebert, musician and Dave Mathews Band recording engineer Joe Lawlor; East Coast blues band Bad Infuence Band guitarist Michael “Jr” Tash; business, technology, entertainment, and licensing attorney Joy Butler of Law Office of Joy R. Butler; and musician and former talent agent Ray Bialek of Bialek’s Music.
The concert is sponsored by law firms Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, LLP; Boies, Schiller & Flexner LLP; Law Offices of Peter C. Hansen, LLC; McKool Smith; Shulman, Rogers, Gandal, Pordy & Ecker, PA; and Sutherland Asbill & Brennan LLP. The eight bands competing feature talented legal professionals from the sponsoring firms, as well as Latham & Watkins LLP, Perkins Coie LLP, Polaris, Steptoe & Johnson LLP, government, and special guests from Columbus School of Law. Secretariat International and Navigant Consulting are also sponsors of the event and the Law Rocks tour.
After seeing success from the first concert in London 2009, Law Rocks brought the event to the United States in 2012. “When we started Law Rocks in L.A. four years ago, we never expected it to grow so rapidly,” Ted Scott, co-founder of Law Rocks USA, commented. “We are thrilled about the success of the U.S. concerts and are excited to be a part of this global organization as it continues to evolve and raise more money for the local charities.”
As an organization, Law Rocks Global has raised over US$1,000,000 for various nonprofits across the world. The DC concert is the penultimate stop for the 2015 Law Rocks World Tour, continuing afterwards to New York City. For more information you can visit the Law Rocks event site here.
