On December 20, 2021, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced D.C.’s COVID-19 Action Plan in response to the unprecedented surge related to the Omicron variant. The highlights of the Action Plan include:

Reinstating the indoor mask mandate beginning December 21 at 6:00 a.m. until January 31, 2022 at 6:00 a.m.

Instituting a mandate that all employees, contractors, interns, and grantees of the D.C. government must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which now includes getting a booster. There will be no test-out option. The D.C. government has not announced the specific deadline yet.

Expanded testing, including increased availability of PCR tests and new sites to pick up and drop off at-home PCR tests

Beginning December 22, D.C. Health will launch the Test Yourself Express program. Residents will be able to pick up free at-home rapid antigen COVID-19 testing kits at 8 locations across D.C.
