D.C. Paid Family Leave Changes Effective October 1, 2026
The District of Columbia recently amended its Paid Family Leave (“PFL”) program to change the maximum leave durations for medical and family leave claims and the maximum weekly benefit amount, and has issued an updated workplace poster reflecting those changes.
Effective October 1, 2026:
- Medical Leave: The maximum benefit period is reduced from 12 weeks to 10 weeks;
- Family Leave: The maximum benefit period is reduced from 12 weeks to 6 weeks; and
- Maximum Weekly Benefit: The maximum weekly benefit is reduced from $1,190 to $1,100.
The maximum benefit periods for parental leave (12 weeks) and prenatal leave (2 weeks) remain unchanged.
D.C. employers should replace their existing PFL workplace poster with the updated poster, which is available here.
Employers should also review their handbooks and leave policies that describe PFL benefits and revise them as necessary to reflect these changes.
Please reach out to us if you have any questions about these changes or would like assistance reviewing or revising your leave policies.
