As an associate in the firm’s Family Law group, Veronica A. Holmes represents individuals and families across Virginia and the District of Columbia in divorce, custody, and support matters. Veronica has extensive experience representing clients in matters involving the equitable division of marital property, custody and visitation, child support, and spousal support, both in litigation and in negotiated resolutions. Veronica enjoys working on complex custody matters, helping clients understand the legal system to better care for their children. She also enjoys working with military families, navigating the complexities of the division of retirement assets.
Family law touches the most personal parts of a client’s life, and Veronica brings the dedicated advocacy and clear communication these moments demand. Veronica guides her clients through the most challenging times of their lives, helping them plan for happiness and fulfillment after divorce.
Recognized as a Best Lawyers: Ones to Watch honoree for Family Law and a member of the Virginia Lawyers Weekly Class of 2023 Up and Coming Lawyers, Veronica brings a thoughtful, research-driven approach to complex questions in the field, including the division of military pensions and the imputation of income for support matters.
Before focusing her practice on family law, Veronica served as Legislative Counsel to the Council of the District of Columbia, where she led the introduction and passage of the Detained Youth Access to the Juvenile Services Program Amendment of 2019. In that role, she drafted proposed legislation, staffed a Councilmember at hearings, and worked with community organizers, advocates, and the executive branch to shape policy responsive to community needs.
Outside of her practice, Veronica is active in the legal community and committed to expanding access to legal services. She presented a continuing legal education session at the Fairfax Bar Association Annual Convention on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal profession. She volunteers as Attorney of the Day with Legal Services of Northern Virginia, representing protective order petitioners in family abuse matters in Fairfax Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court, and as a Volunteer Attorney with Christian Legal Aid of the District of Columbia, providing services through a weekly clinic on housing, eviction defense, criminal record sealing and expungement, Social Security benefits, estate planning, and probate.
