January 2, 2020
POTOMAC, MD. January 2, 2020 – Shulman Rogers is pleased to announce that Lane Hornfeck, Felix Kushnir and Benjamin Smith have been elected as shareholders.
“The firm remains committed to the development and mentorship of our associates, and we are proud to see these three attorneys rise to shareholder status,” said Managing Shareholder, Samuel M. Spiritos. “Lane, Felix and Ben epitomize the diverse talent Shulman Rogers brings to our local, regional and national clients.”
Lane Hornfeck – Commercial Litigation
Practicing for more than 20 years and having been a partner in her former firm in Hawaii, Lane Hornfeck’s commercial litigation practice includes representing individuals and companies involved in complex business and corporate disputes, real estate and construction litigation, hospitality, fiduciary litigation, antitrust and trade practice litigation, class action defense, appellate litigation and alternative dispute resolution. Lane distills complex issues quickly and strategically and provides her clients with needed leverage to resolve disputes efficiently and cost-effectively in order to protect their bottom line.
Lane has received the AV Preeminent Rating from Martindale-Hubbell and was named to the Super Lawyers Hawaii list. She received her B.A. in 1994 from The University of Pittsburgh, where she graduated magna cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She obtained her J.D. in 1998 from The University of Hawaii, William S. Richardson School of Law, where she was a member of the U.H. Law Review and Jessup International Moot Court Team.
Felix J. Kushnir – Business and Financial Services
With personal experience owning and operating a business, Felix Kushnir knows how challenging it can be to grow a business and still find time to manage its legal and compliance matters. Felix represents corporate, venture capital and private equity clients in connection with transactional and securities matters, including mergers, acquisitions, dispositions, exchange, technology transactions and joint ventures.
Prior to starting his legal career with large international law firms, Felix held financial and corporate development positions with Fortune 50 companies in the financial services, energy and telecommunications industries. He graduated from The University of Pennsylvania in 1996, where he received cum laude honors. He obtained his J.D. from The George Washington University Law School in 2006, with Honors.
Benjamin P. Smith – Creditors’ Rights, Real Estate and Bankruptcy
Clients trust and rely on Ben Smith because of his extensive knowledge in handling the recovery of special and defaulted assets in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Virginia. Ben represents clients in foreclosures, receiverships, debt structuring, workouts, bankruptcy, collection litigation, title resolution, tax sale defense and evictions. He has an established track record of producing favorable results for his clients, often leading to a 100% recovery.
Outside of the office, community service is one of Ben’s passions. He is a volunteer for the Montgomery County Coalition for the Homeless and volunteers with children and adults who have special needs. He graduated from The University of Kentucky in 2001 and received his J.D. from The Appalachian School of Law in 2007.
