Alex Castelli is an employment law attorney at Shulman Rogers, advising and representing clients across Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. His practice serves business owners, HR professionals, and executives who turn to him for practical, business-focused advice, whether that means answering a quick HR question or navigating a high-stakes workplace dispute. While he primarily represents employers, Alex also represents employees in select matters.
A significant part of Alex’s practice centers on workplace and internal investigations. He advises employers responding to complaints of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and other workplace misconduct, and conducts independent investigations that are thorough, defensible, and tailored to each employer’s needs. That groundwork helps clients assess risk early, make informed decisions, and stand on solid footing if a dispute follows.
Alex also counsels employers on employee discipline and terminations, FMLA and other leave issues, ADA accommodations, wage and hour compliance, and other day-to-day employment matters. He assists employers with audits and investigations by the U.S. Department of Labor and state labor agencies, including wage and hour investigations, and drafts restrictive covenant agreements, including non-competition and non-solicitation provisions. He also prepares severance agreements and advises on layoffs and reductions in force. On the preventative side, he helps employers build employee handbooks, personnel policies, and employment agreements that comply with applicable law and hold up in practice, and leads training sessions on employment law compliance and workplace conduct.
When disputes escalate, Alex represents clients in federal and state courts and before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights, the D.C. Office of Human Rights, and other federal, state, and local administrative agencies. His litigation practice includes matters involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour claims, restrictive covenants, and breach of contract throughout Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.
Alex earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he served as Articles Editor of the University of Baltimore Law Review and competed on the National Moot Court Team. He earned his B.A. from Washington and Lee University. Before joining Shulman Rogers, Alex served as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Jeannie J. Hong of the Circuit Court for Baltimore City.
