
Stanley W. Martin is an associate in the Firm’s Commercial Litigation Department, where his practice focuses on the representation of clients in contract disputes, real property and corporate disputes, government contracting issues, bid protests, and general litigation matters, as well as alternative dispute resolution. Mr. Martin’s prior experience includes advocacy and counseling on behalf of land owners and developers, contractors, subcontractors, and other business entities in a wide array of litigation and general contract matters involving mechanics’ lien actions, construction defects, default terminations, bid protests, and general tort defense. He also has extensive experience with housing-related litigation involving accessibility and discrimination claims associated with the fair housing laws and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) violations.
Prior to practicing law, Mr. Martin was a practicing civil engineer, and has an extensive construction and engineering background. He served as a senior project manager for numerous retail, commercial, industrial, institutional, transportation, and airport construction projects. As such, he is well versed in the day-to-day construction operations, from design through completion. He has significant experience preparing project estimates, drafting and reviewing project specifications, reviewing and analyzing shop drawings and technical submittals for conformance, and preparing and negotiating construction contracts, subcontracts, and change orders.
Additionally, in his role as a consultant, Mr. Martin participated in litigation support for construction and design professional claims involving scheduling delays, acceleration and inefficiency analyses, liability and entitlement assessments, and damage quantification. Mr. Martin also served as an expert witness.
Mr. Martin is a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (B.S., Civil Engineering, 1993) and the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 2006), where he served as a staff member of the University of Baltimore Law Review, was a Litigation Fellow in the inaugural class of the Stephen L. Snyder Center for Litigation Skills, and was selected as a student member of the Montgomery County, Maryland American Inn of Court.
He is an active member of the American Bar Association regularly involved in the Forum for the Construction Industry, and the Maryland State Bar Association where he is an active Council Member of the Construction Law Section.
